Pardon Me

The British can be confusing. We’ve developed a sort of secret language that can be hard to understand. So, we have compiled a helpful glossary to help get you through.

What we say

What we mean

That’s not bad

It is in fact really VERY good

I’ll bear it in mind

I have already forgotten what you said

Excuse me, sorry. Is anyone sitting here?

Remove your bags immediately

You’ve caught the sun

You are lobster-red, you should seek medical attention

(In response to how are you:) Not too bad actually

I am probably the happiest I have ever been

With all due respect

You have no idea what you are talking about and I am about to tell you that

Oh, I’d love to but

He/she’s a bit of a character

They are the worst person I have ever met

Could do

Absolutely not

I’ll send you some dates

You won’t hear from me again

Correct me if I’m wrong

I am definitely not wrong so don’t challenge me

Right! (followed by a slapping of the knee)

I should have left two hours ago but was too polite to interrupt you
